Downloading and Installing the Tango Movie Tool and Sample Movies

Overview

The Tango Movie Tool (TMT) package is broken down into several ZIP files so that, if you have a slow modem connection, you do not have to download the larger sample movies in order to try out the program.

You will download all of the ZIP file of interest into a new folder that you create on your hard drive. After downloading, each of the ZIP files should be expanded using the WinZip program (http://www.winzip.com). When you unzip the files, it is important to do this using the new folder that you downloaded everything to as the "destination folder," and to also specifiy that the ZIP file extraction process should "use sub-folders." After expanding the ZIP files, the original ZIP files can be deleted from your hard drive.

Detailed Steps:

1. Create a new folder to hold everything that you will download. In this example, we have created the "TangoMovieTool" folder on our C drive.

2. Download at least the program.zip file, and the reachtransfer1.zip file. You can right-click on the following URL's and select "Save Target As...", or you can left-click on them, and indicate, in the resulting dialog box, that you want to Save the file to your hard drive. In either case, save the ZIP files to the new folder that you created. In addition, you will probably want to download the userguide.zip file, so that you can view all of the documention directly from your hard drive. The screen capture shows the contents of your new folder after downloading everything.

3. Unzip each of the ZIP files that you downloaded, using WinZip. As shown in the sample dialog from WinZip, be sure that:

4. After unzipping just the program.zip and the reachtransfer1.zip files, the new folder's contents will appear approximately as shown here. Notice that the Tango Movie Tool program .EXE file is present, and that a sub-folder, "ReachTransfer 1" has been automatically created to hold the short sample movie.

5. If you downloaded and unzipped all of the ZIP files, your new folder will appear similar to the following. The .TXT files contain short descriptions of the sample movies in the corresponding folders.

6. After you have unzipped all of the ZIP files, you can delete them, leaving the following in your new folder:

7. Open the TangoMovieTool.exe file -- this starts the Tango Movie Tool program. If desired, you can also right click on this file name, and create a short-cut, which can be dragged to your desktop. When you click on the "Open" button in TMT, you should see the folders that contain the sample movies that your downloaded. If not, use the "browse" features of the dialog to browse to your new folder.

8. Open one of the folder that contains the movie that you want to view, and click on the first .jpg file in that folder. Click the Open button to view the movie.

9. If any of the special characters on the buttons of the main program screen do not appear correctly, you are missing one or both of the fonts "Wingdings 2" and/or "Wingdings 3". Download the missing fonts and install them into your Windows/Fonts folder. The exact details of installing fonts varies slightly from one version of Windows to another. In general, you use Windows Explorer to open the Windows/Fonts folder, and then select "Add Font" from the File menu.
